Alessandro Volpato

Alessandro designs tools to facilitate the learning process in life sciences and explore interdisciplinary research, in- and outside universities. To do that, he transfers knowledge to non-experts by hosting workshops, designing open source tools and fostering critical discussion about biotechnology and innovation. Alessandro has a Master's degree of the Università degli Studi di Padova Degree in the field of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In the Pocket Science Lab project he works on extending the functionality with an open spectrometer module.

Alexander Bessmann

Alexander is an engineer based in Sweden working for Scania. He holds two degrees from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology as a doctor of philosophy and a PHD in chemical engineering. In the Pocket Science Lab project Alex works on the hardware, firmware and Python components.

Mitch

Mitch Altman is an international hacker and inventor, best known for inventing TV-B-Gone remote controls, a keychain that turns off TVs in public places. He has been creating music and music synthesizers since he was a teenager, was co-founder of 3ware, a successful Silicon Valley startup in the late 1990s, and did pioneering work in Virtual Reality in the mid-1980s. He has contributed to 2600, MAKE, and other magazines, and wrote a chapter for “Maker Pro”, a book about making a living from projects one loves. Mitch enjoys his frequent hacker/artist-in-residencies, where he shares, learns, and continues to cross-pollinate. For the last several years Mitch has been giving performances, talks, leading workshops around the world, inspiring people, sharing how to make cool things with electronics, and teaching everyone to solder. He promotes hackerspaces and open source hardware, and mentors others wherever he goes. He is a co-founder of Noisebridge hackerspace in San Francisco, and is President and CEO of Cornfield Electronics.

Nils Melzer (born 1970) is a Swiss academic, author and practitioner in the field of international law. Since 1 November 2016, Melzer has served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. He is a professor of international law at the University of Glasgow and holds the Human Rights Chair at the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in Switzerland, where he has been teaching since 2009, including as the Swiss Chair of International Humanitarian Law (2011–2013).

Seine Motivation: “Wir haben nun noch 10 Jahre Zeit, um wirklich was zu reißen, um eine wirklich regenerative Nahrungsmittelproduktion hinzubekommen. Waldgärten sind der Königsweg dahin”.

Shannon Dosemagen

Shannon (she/her) is an environmental health advocate, community science champion and enthusiastic about the potential for open systems and technology to support the creation of a more just and equitable future.

Whether teaching freshwater benthic sampling, working with fenceline communities on environmental monitoring or teaching the complex art of kayaking in weedy water, Shannon is focused on building and growing collaborative spaces.

She has spent the last 20 years working with environment and public health groups to address declining freshwater resources, coastal land loss and building monitoring programs with communities living adjacent to industrial facilities. Shannon is a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow working on the Open Environmental Data Project, co-founder of Public Lab and Executive Director from 2010-20. She is a member of the National Parks Conservation Association Board of Trustees, is a board member of Code for Science and Society, a steward of the Gathering for Open Science Hardware, Co-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Open Hardware, member of the Union of Concerned Scientists Science Advocacy working group, and previous Chair of both the U.S. EPA National Advisory Council on Environmental Policy and Technology and the Citizen Science Association. She is a Rita Allen Foundation Civic Science Fellow, Ashoka Fellow, a senior fellow of the Environmental Leadership Program, and is a previous Fellow at both the Harvard Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society and Loyola University Environmental Communications Institute.

Stefania Maurizi is an investigative journalist working for the major Italian daily IL Fatto Quotidiano. She previously worked for la Repubblica and L'Espresso for 14 years. She has worked on all WikiLeaks secret documents, worked with Glenn Greenwald on the Snowden files about Italy, revealed the confidential agreement between the US government and the family of Giovanni Lo Porto, the Italian aid worker killed in Pakistan by a US drone strike.Stefania is the only journalist who has conducted a multi-jurisdictional FOIA litigation to defend the right of the press to access the full documentation on Julian Assange and WikiLeaks.

She recently published the book "Il Potere Segreto. Perché vogliono distruggere Julian Assange e WikiLeaks" for the reputable Italian publisher Chiarelettere. Her book has a preface by the British film director Ken Loach. Her investigation and her book has been awarded the European Award Investigative And Judicial Journalism. Her book will be published in English in 2022.
