The European XFEL is the latest generation of light sources. It can generate up to 27,000 extremely short and intense X-ray light pulses which are used to address scientific challenges, such as unveiling the atomic structures of viruses. Each experiment can generate hundreds of terabytes or even petabytes of data, and in this talk we'll discuss the challenges of storing and analyzing that data.
I work in the Data Analysis team at the European XFEL, primarily on things related to online data analysis (the realtime analysis used to guide experiments). Things that spark joy in my cold dead heart include: tagines, Emacs, pretty plots, sleeping, and htop showing all cores at 100% :)
