The first part of this talk will be an overview of my personal mathematical history. This history is typical, until the point where Academia asked me to make a compromise I couldn't accept. At this point, I decided to go independent. The second part of this talk will explain the pros and cons of this kind of independence, as well as a how-to-guide for starting your own non-profit research institute. This talk will include several fun mathematical puzzles.
