How to use collaborative tools in a feminist way - even if they're tailored towards a capitalist logic? How to run systems differently? Discuss with us in this workshop.

Using digital infrastructure comes with a lot of contradictions. With our feminist server collective diebin.at, we operate infrastructure like email, chat or websites for other collectives. We try to do this as collaboratively as possible and continuously look for tools which enable us to do so.

But most tools at our disposal came out of digital capitalism and reflect its exploitational, patriarchal and colonial logics. They are made to maximize workers' productivity, not to enable actual cooperation. Yet our collective also has to work with limited time and resources. Could we even use concepts like agile to organize our work? Wouldn't distributing individual tasks in tickets contradict our collectivist approach? Do we want to be efficient and always available? And do we even want to call what we do work?

In this workshop, we want to create space to share our experiences and ideas around using the tools at our disposal in feminist ways. We want to share some examples from our stack (shared tmux shells, ansible playbooks, git, dokuwiki, zulip...), put our practices up for debate, and open the room for learning together from all participants.

Let's explore together what tools we use, how we use them, how we could use them differently and which ones we maybe should refuse altogether.
